Lip Gloss with Beetroot Powder - by Jo Bogle
What is beetroot powder?
Beetroot powder is made from dehydrated Beets. Once dehydrated they are then ground up to make a really fine powder. This powder can be added to gravies, sauces, soups. It also can help provide color in a recipe. A natural product with no additives that can be added to your DIY beauty products like I am going to share with you today.
Something to remember! Beetroot Juice is water soluble so adding this to an oil based recipe like lip balm can present to be a bit tricky as the powder may tend to go a bit lumpy. Adding the powder to glycerin helps this process and your ingredients will mix a whole lot easier.
What You Need
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- ½ tablespoon beeswax pellets
- ½ teaspoon shea butter
- ½ teaspoon Beetroot Powder
- 10mls glycerin
- Microwavable jug
- 2 x 10g lip balm containers
Directions
Place the coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax in a pyrex jug. Microwave at 15 - 20 sec intervals stirring in between. Keep doing this until beeswax is completely melted.

In a separate glass or metal bowl mix the beetroot powder and glycerin until the powder has dissolved.

I then added 2 drops of Peppermint essential oil to this mixture.

Let the oil mixture cool slightly then add to the beetroot mixture. Using a small whisk mix well until mixture cools and starts to thicken. Place mixture into your lip balm containers. I used 2 x 10ml Aluminium tins

Most of the ingredients and the tins I have used today all can be purchased at https://www.centaurpackaging.com.au
I hope you found this recipe and information helpful.
You can easily make a bigger quantity of this recipe by doubling or tripling the ingredients.
