Why making bath salts may not be as easy as you expected?
Have you ever blended natural salts to use in the bath? Thought about selling these easy to make beautiful DIY Bath Salts?
Well blending salts can be tricky. Blending Pink Himalayan Coarse and Fine salts with Epsom Salts is relatively easy and fuss free. However Add in Dead Sea Salts or Magnesium Flakes for that extra dash and you could have trouble.
Why?
Dead Sea Salts and Magnesium Chloride Flakes absorb atmospheric moisture, they also have been known to extract water from other natural salts such as Pink bath salts and Magnesium Sulphate (Epsom Salts). Humidity and packaging can also play a problem in keeping your bath salts looking good and not going soggy.
Don't give up on the experiment because these Salts play an important role in assisting the body to rid itself of toxins, sedate the nervous system, supply us with magnesium and sulphates and helps in maintaining a healthy intestinal tract.
What are some ways to avoid soggy moist bath salts?
- Airtight packaging, such as Glass jars.
- Use less Magnesium flakes or Dead Sea Salts in your mix and trial it.
- Experiment with your packaging and batches. Batch testing is best.
- Try adding Essential oils, Carrier oils such as Sweet Almond Oil or Coconut Oil or even Botanical such as Rose Petals, Lavender or Chamomile.
Remember that all DIY is like making a cake. Find what works best for you and remember even if your Bath Salts go hard or soggy, they are still fine to use and have all the natural goodness you need without the nasties.
