How to Use Essential Oils to Change the Way You Feel
Introducing the Essential Emotions Wheel - a simple tool that matches your mood to the right oil.
Have you ever felt off - anxious, flat, overwhelmed - but not quite known what you needed? You're not alone. One of the most common things we hear from our customers is that they know aromatherapy helps, but they don't always know which oil to reach for.
That's exactly why we created the Essential Emotions Wheel. It's a free interactive tool on our website that takes the guesswork out of aromatherapy and connects your emotions directly to the oils that can support them.
What is the Essential Emotions Wheel?
The Essential Emotions Wheel is a visual reference guide split into two sides:
The Feel More Wheel helps you identify positive emotions you want to cultivate - things like joy, peace, confidence, love, and clarity - and shows you exactly which essential oils are associated with each one.
The Feel Less Wheel works the other way. If you're experiencing something difficult - sadness, anger, fear, confusion, or feeling numb - it guides you to oils that can help ease those feelings.
"Think of it like a mood map. You find where you are, and it shows you the way to where you want to be."
How to use it - in three simple steps
Step 1 - Check in with yourself. Take a moment and honestly ask: how am I feeling right now? Don't overthink it. Go with your gut.
Step 2 - Choose your wheel. If you want more of something positive, use the Feel More Wheel. If you want to ease something difficult, use the Feel Less Wheel.
Step 3 - Click your emotion. The wheel highlights your chosen segment and shows you the recommended oils beneath it. You can then explore those oils, add them to your collection, or blend them together.
Why it works
Essential oils have been used for thousands of years to support emotional wellbeing. The scent molecules in oils interact directly with the limbic system - the part of the brain that processes emotions and memory. This is why a single inhale of lavender can instantly feel calming, or why citrus oils seem to lift your spirits almost immediately.
The Emotions Wheel simply takes that science and organises it in a way that's easy for anyone - even complete beginners - to understand and use.
A few favourites to get you started
Feeling anxious or fearful? Try lavender, frankincense, or vetiver - grounding oils that settle a racing mind.
Need more energy or clarity? Peppermint, lemon, and rosemary are brilliant for focus and mental sharpness.
Craving peace or comfort? Sandalwood, Roman chamomile, and magnolia are deeply soothing and balancing.
Want more joy? Wild orange, ylang ylang, and elevation blends are uplifting and warm.
Try it for yourself
The Essential Emotions Wheel is live on our website right now - completely free to use, no sign-up required. Whether you're brand new to aromatherapy or you've been using oils for years, it's a tool you'll come back to again and again.
Head to our Oil Wheel page and give it a try. Click an emotion, discover your oil, and see how good it feels to have a starting point.
